Challenger Athletics Held Its 3rd Annual Surf Camp

Jon A. Ward is an active Board Member with Challenger Athletics, which held its 3rd Annual Surf Camp on September 14th at Gilgo Beach in Babylon. Mr. Ward has served with, and has been an instrumental part of this organization, helping to establish it in 2013.

This year's surf camp had more than 135 athletes spend an hour with an instructor and a buddy to learn how to "catch a wave" and develop self-confidence in the water. The program is a huge success in part to its variety of volunteers, ranging from lifeguards from Fire Island, Robert Moses and Jones Beach to local members of the community working to support the organization.

Challenger Athletics is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the growth of special-needs children through sports. Currently, the organization conducts eight different sport programs for children with special needs. The organization was co-founded by Raymond Samson, whose youngest son, Patrick, has Down syndrome.
